3 Additional Tips for Working on Fluency:
1. Students need to be reading a text that is just right for them!
- It can’t be too easy or they will just rush through it.
- It can’t be too hard because then they will go too slowly as they have to work harder to decode each word.
- Choose a passage that is best for each reader! (This is where the Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade Bundle is extra helpful!)
2. Practicing for a few minutes every day makes a huge difference.
- Use the suggested times above to make this happen!
3. Model fluent reading as often as you can throughout your day!
- Your students want to be just like YOU! Show them what it means to read fluently whenever you read a text from your curriculum and when you’re reading just for fun to them.
- Explain how your reading sounds fluent and ask them to copy you!
