New Year Printable Activities for K-5

These new year printable activities don’t require your students to simply set goals or new year’s resolutions. Instead, these new year comprehension passages allow students to read about new year’s eve activities, including stories about kids setting goals. Reading the new year stories may make your students want to set goals or new year’s resolutions. They might find new fun activities they want to do for new year celebrations next year that they hadn’t thought of before. The passages may encourage them to set realistic goals and follow through on their own new year goals. Your little learners will also read and find out that new year’s resolutions don’t always work out. The new year’s theme of each passage will get kids excited about the brand new year and all the possibilities that come up with a new year. Young learners will read about the ball drop, fun activities at a new year’s eve party, and how a whole family may celebrate their own new year.

Each passage comes with its own set of comprehension questions. Students will work on their reading and writing skills when completing the new year printable activities. There are no lesson plans included with the passages as they are very simple to just print and use.

Additional Ways to Use New Year Printable Activities

While the main focus of these new year printable activities is to work on reading skills and build comprehension skills, you can try these additional ways to extend the use of these comprehension passages.

  • Students can color in the pictures included with the text once they’ve completed their reading and comprehension questions.
  • Students can also discuss the text as they finish each passage or individual section, as well. You’ll get an idea of their understanding of the text, in a verbal sense.
  • Highlighters are always a hit and often motivating for students. One last thing to do is have readers use a highlighter as the answer questions to show where they got the evidence for their answers, in the text.
