St. Patrick's Day Printable Activities
Before I share about the free printable worksheets for St Patrick’s Day, I wanted to tell you all about my other St Patrick’s Day printable activities. I loved writing these St. Patrick’s Day comprehension passages as I pictured kids reading about the pots of gold, the end of the rainbow, leprechaun shenanigans, gold coins, and more- all on their own! There are plenty of St. Patrick’s Day words for your students to learn and read about in each passage. Your students will enjoy the St. Patrick’s Day themed passages as they make their way through each text.
I love giving readers the opportunity to work on comprehension in multiple ways. You’re most likely reading some St. Patrick’s Day themed stories aloud to your students. It is super important to see how students comprehend a text that is read to them. It gives you an idea of their ability to follow a story line and pay attention while someone else is reading to them.
Another way kids of all age need to work on comprehension is through being able to show their understanding of their own reading. This is hugely important as we know students will spend the rest of their lives reading independently. They’ll be assessed on their ability to comprehend in school, but also we want them to be successful comprehenders when reading on their own for enjoyment, or information, outside of school. The more time you spend building their comprehension skills from an early age, the better!
Comprehension passages are a great way to get students to stop, think, and discuss the text in a less intimidating way than if they’re reading a full book. These passages include questions in a written-response comprehension check format. Answer keys are included for all the comprehension questions, so you can quickly skim the written responses for accuracy. It can be so helpful to see students’ responses to their own reading to give you an idea of how successfully they’re digesting what they’re reading. Their responses to the comprehension questions can clue you in to how your young learners are doing with fluency, too- maybe they’re reading too fast and not comprehending, possibly reading too slowly and also not comprehending!
These St. Patrick’s Day printable activities can be used:
- in small groups
- during independent reading
- sent home
They’re super simple to use since you just need to print and make copies. I know your students will love reading, and rereading these Saint Patrick’s Day passages!

Upper Elementary St. Patrick's Day Printable Pages
While my free printable worksheets for St Patrick’s Day are geared toward younger learners, I do have something for upper elementary readers, as well. For your upper elementary students who are preparing for upcoming state assessments, these comprehension passages are an engaging way to work on writing skills in reading responses.
They are the perfect activity for English Language Arts test prep in a non-intimidating manner. The upper elementary passages are slightly longer, but broken up into four main parts. The St. Patrick’s Day worksheets encourage readers to stop and think before moving on to the next part. You can even use the texts over multiple days instead of all in one sitting. This will help your readers really focus on their written-response comprehension check for each part of the passages.
Each grade level printable pack will make your 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, or 5th Grade students feel more confident in their ability to read and respond to slightly lengthier texts. While your upper elementary students are enjoying the topics of the St. Patrick’s Day worksheets, they’ll also be improving their comprehension skills.
