4 Christmas Printable Activities for Kids to Spark Joy

These 4 Christmas printable activities for kids are sure to spark joy as you inch closer to winter break this holiday season. The printable worksheets and printable games are a great way to include fun activities in your Iiteracy lessons in the weeks leading up to Christmas day. All the printable pages I’m sharing with you today are a fun way to focus on literacy skills for Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students. Students will be sure to get in the holiday spirit as they complete each of the fun printable Christmas activities. Read on to see how you can include all 4 Christmas printable activities with your students in the month of December.

Christmas Phonics Games and Fluency Activities

First up for the Christmas printable activities are the Christmas Phonics Games and Fluency Activities. You can use these fun games as educational printables to keep your students engaged leading up to the holiday break! Young children really just love the fun Christmas printables with the Christmas holidays clipart included on each page. From candy canes to Christmas cookies and other Christmas traditions, little kids are engaged as they’re working. You’ll be able to help your young learners improve their decoding and fluency skills without them even realizing it!

Phonics Patterns

These Christmas printable worksheets are ideal for little kids as they’re working on mastering all the phonics patterns. Following a scope and sequence, students will have a chance to systematically work on their decoding skills. Each phonics pattern comes with 4 printable worksheets. The pages allow students to focus on improving their fluency in a gradual manner, as they work on decoding. Readers will begin with decoding words, then sentences, followed by short stories. The words are decodable on all of the pages, following a specific progression. Students then have the opportunity to play a game that includes words for the specific phonics pattern focus.

The phonics patterns included with these Christmas printable activities are:

  • CVC words
  • Digraphs
  • Beginning Blends
  • Ending Blends
  • Added Endings
  • CVCe words
  • R-controlled Vowels
  • Vowel Teams/ Long Vowel Sounds
  • Diphthongs

As you see there are a large variety of phonics patterns included. Knowing that, you may find that if you teach 3rd grade students, they will also benefit from using these Christmas printable activities. Especially if you have older kids who struggle with decoding various phonics patterns. Older kids will also love this fun way of focusing on decoding!

Grab these Christmas Phonics Games and Fluency Activities to use during the holiday season. December is a great time to focus on literacy skills when using these educational activities while also enjoying holiday festivities!

Christmas Printable Activities - Reading Passages

You’ll want your students to read longer text as well to keep applying their knowledge of decoding, in context. You can use the I am a Reader Christmas printable activities in combination with the Christmas Phonics Games and Fluency Activities. These passages can simply be printed and used in small groups, during independent reading, or sent home for additional reading practice.

Getting to read about Christmas on their own is a great way for students to build confidence as readers. Students will read Christmas words in the stories related to Christmas day, Christmas Eve, Christmas dinner, a Christmas party, or even a Christmas tree.
