Literacy Resources for October
In order to keep readers engaged month after month, it’s important to switch out materials being used. In this post, you’ll find some freebies to help readers share their excitement for Halloween. At the same time, readers will be learning. Yay!
Beginning Sounds Literacy Center
Early readers need a lot of practice with beginning letter sounds in words. Often at this time of year, there are a lot of kiddos still working on this skill. Readers will simply be choosing a picture card and matching it up with the correct beginning letter sound. This is a center that can be used a few times in October to help improve letter sound recognition! Download this freebie here!
Emergent Reader Freebie
Early readers need help practicing words in context. These simple mini books are a great way to practice reading simple sight words. You can read these books together as a group first. Have readers circle/underline/highlight a few different sight words as you go through the pages. The last page includes a spot for readers to list what they are for Halloween. Once done, readers can practice reading with a partner and on their own. Grab the free mini book here!
Happy Reading!
